Our website was under attack by drones of spambots. Hundreds of fictitious users were registering each day just to post a meaningless comment with obscure links to some dubious websites. For a while the new (beta) website was hiding behind the wraps. It was accessible from an inconspicuous link on the front page of www.IEEE-SCV-TMC.org. After months of development, it finally got officially released on August 28, 2009, just in time for the new season.

The new website is built on Drupal, an open-source content management system. That choice allowed quick construction of all basic functionality, but required extensive programming of bits and pieces that were missing in core Drupal system and contributed modules. Read more...

I created a sample installation of TMC website using [l|http://drupal.org|Drupal] for review of the board and group members. The standard Drupal configuration is enhanced with the following modules:

• Blog, Forum
• Main menu with navigation into old website sections (Meetings, Membership, Training)
• Roles (admin, board member, website moderator)
• Wiki extension (improved navigation using page titles)

New users can register an account, but it needs an approval from someone of the 3 roles above. Read more...
